WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Two people were killed and a third person was injured in a stabbing at a home near Westminster on Friday afternoon.
Deputies were called to the home on Smith Farm Road near Highway 11 about 5 p.m.
Investigators said the bodies of two women were found at the home. They said a third person, who is believed to be responsible for the stabbing, was found injured.
The injured person was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment, deputies said. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said he was an 86-year-old male companion of the older victim and lived at the home with her. Deputies said he was arrested Sunday.
Addis identified the victims as Clarine Smith, 82, who lived at the home, and her niece, Sandra Smith Myers, 63, of Seneca. He said they were found dead in the living room area of the home by Myers' son, who came over after telephone calls to one of the victims went unanswered.
Addis said it appears Smith and Myers were killed between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday. He said autopsies showed Smith died from a head injury due to blunt force trauma while Myers was stabbed in the chest.
Neighbors told FOX Carolina the victims' family is nice and quiet, and the news is shocking.
"I'm scared, being right down the road from here and me not knowing anything about it, it's really upset me," said neighbor Mary Blackmon.
On Sunday, Oconee County deputies charged Nicholas Bonelli with two counts of murder in connection to the deaths.
Bonelli made his first appearance in Magistrate Court on Monday morning. He was not given a bond. A Circuit Court judge can only set a bond on a murder charge.
Bonelli is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 14.
