GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said a man armed with a hammer tried to rob a homeowner, but he fled at the mention of a gun.

Greenville County deputies were called to the home N. Haven Drive in Greenville about 9:50 p.m. Friday after homeowners said a young man tried to rob them.

Deputies said one of the victims heard someone knock on the front door. When they answered it, when the man pushed his way in, threatened the homeowner with a hammer and demanded money.

At that point, another person in the home went to get a gun, letting the subject know, who ran away with another un identified person, who had been on the front porch waiting, deputies said.

No one was injured and nothing was taken during the attempted robbery, according to investigators.

They said the subject was described as young white male, approximately 14 to 23 years old, 5'5" to 5'9" tall, and weighed approximately 110 to 120 pounds. The incident report said he was wearing a red undershirt and a white jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call Greenville County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
