State transportation officials have set up a detour which routes drivers away from a Pickens County bridge that nearly collapsed Tuesday morning.
Officials said three pilings of the 18 Mile Road bridge that spans 18 Mile Creek near Highway 123 broke, causing the roadway to sink. They said the damage was noticed Sunday night.
Transportation officials said an 8.6 mile detour was set up to divert drivers away from the damaged bridge. They said drivers will need to take 18 Mile Road to Highway 88 south to Central Road. They said drivers will then take Central Road until it intersects with Road 39-30. They said drivers will then take Road 39-30 back to Highway 123.
Officials said inspectors are looking over the bridge to decide how to repair it.
