Good morning! Election Day has come and gone, but the weather will stay the same: cloudy and cool with scattered rain and snow showers. Much of the area is seeing light rain and areas of drizzle this morning, with snow limited to a few high-elevation spots in WNC.
We'll keep the best chance of wet weather through the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon. Beyond that point, many areas will dry out, but the clouds will linger. In the Upstate, we'll see only liquid precipitation today. In WNC, the majority of areas will keep rain showers, with elevations over 3500 feet picking up the snow showers. Areas in-between will watch for the mix of rain and snow, but won't see any accumulation.
Most areas have kept accumulations well below two inches, but a few areas may see final totals between 2 and 4 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for these locations - parts of Haywood, Swain and Northern Jackson Counties over 3500 feet. This advisory goes until 3 PM today.
Overnight clouds will clear and temperatures will drop into the upper 30s in the Upstate and the low/mid 30s in WNC. Frost/freeze conditions will develop, so be prepared to defrost the car before you hit the road tomorrow. By the afternoon, we'll be warmer - but still a few degrees below typical highs. With that said, the sunshine will help make it feel better.
Highs return to seasonal levels on Friday through the weekend, with clear blue skies in the forecast. Rain and thunderstorm chances will hold off until early next week, when the next cold front will arrive.
