Sheriff: Man found dead after Laurens Co. fire

WATERLOO, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Laurens County Sheriff said a man was found dead after a mobile home caught fire Thursday morning.

Sheriff Ricky Chastain said the mobile home is located along Highway 39 off of Highway 221 near Waterloo. He told FOX Carolina that other family members were inside made it out alive.

Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said the victim was 51-year-old William Simmons, of 200 Highway 39 in Mountville. Nichols said he died from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters have not said what sparked the fire.
