Disqualification allows Blue Ridge to advance in playoffs

GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Thursday was a whirlwind day for the football team at Blue Ridge High School.

The Tigers thought they were done for the season after losing 26-21 to Lower Richland High School in the first round of the 3A playoffs last week.

However, Blue Ridge coach Wade Cooper said he got a call Thursday afternoon saying that Lower Richland was disqualified from the playoffs because of an ineligible player.

"It's a second chance," Cooper said. "Our guys are very excited about it. We got on the phones. Got them all back in here today. Reissued the equipment. They're excited."

Cooper said that means Blue Ridge will play Daniel High School during the second round of the 3A playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Central.
