SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are investigating the discovery of a gun dumped inside a trash can at the WestGate Mall.

Police said they were called to the mall about 7:20 p.m. on Thursday after two women saw a man toss the gun in a food court trash can then leave with a friend.

The women told police they saw the two men inside the Hollister Store a few minutes earlier and they tried to "chat them up" when one of the women saw the gun in the one of the men's belt band.

They notified mall security, which spooked the men, police said. The women told police as the men ran out of the mall, they saw one of them toss the gun away.

Police said when they found the gun, the chamber was empty, but there were two bullets and a magazine in it.

No arrests have been made. Police said they were reviewing mall security footage of the incident.
