GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate family held hostage during a standoff that killed one man and injured a child are looking for help repairing their home from the related damage.

The incident unfolded at the family's home on Skyland Drive in Greer on Oct. 14 after deputies said Shane Young, 30, was out to kill his ex-girlfriend and anyone who stood in his way. Deputies said Young stormed the home, held several people inside hostage in the bathroom after shooting 49-year-old Kenny Horton, who tried to fend Young off.

After failed negotiations SWAT team members from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office stormed the home to rescue the family and try to save Horton, who later died. During the rescue, deputies said Young fired shots, hitting two officers, who returned fire, hitting Young several times.

During the shootout, three of the hostages were wounded including a 11-year-old girl who was shot in the leg by Young, deputies said.

Cheryl Mann was one of the hostages and said while the sheriff's office helped to clean up and repair some of the damage,  there is still a lot of damage left behind.  She said seeing it is a constant reminder of that tragic night.

"When I look at this (bullet hole), it brings back that night. When I look in the living room and the holes there, it brings back that night.  When I look at my mom's headboard, it brings back that night," said Mann.

Mann said they still need help plugging some of the bullet holes and replacing the floor.

Donations can be made at Founders Bank in Lyman in care of Sandra Hand, or you can reach Sandra Hand and Cheryl Mann at 864-201-7930.

Young was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary along with 17 additional offenses: one count of murder, eight counts of attempted murder, five counts of kidnapping, one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, one count of resisting arrest with a deadly with a weapon and one count of discharging firearms into a dwelling.
