A North Carolina man has been charged after prompting a standoff at the Travelers Rest Walmart earlier in the month.

Bobby Taylor, 50, of Candler, was charged with pointing and presenting a weapon in connection with the Nov. 5 standoff that prompted road closures and a temporary lockdown of the Walmart, police said.

The day of the standoff, Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe said Taylor was armed with a knife and a pistol, and was threatening to hurt himself. He said the man demanded to speak to a woman who was not at the scene.

After nearly three hours, officers moved in and took the man into custody. Crowe said the man was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation where he was later released and arrested.

Taylor was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond of $5,000.

No one was injured during the standoff.
