Deneal Penson (Solicitor's Office)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Spartanburg man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday for repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend last year.
Deneal Penson, 33, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Prosecutors said that on May 11, 2011, Penson used a pocket knife to stab his girlfriend several times during a fight. They said the woman's children even began attacking Penson in an effort to protect their mother.
Investigators said that arriving deputies found Penson's girlfriend at a neighbor's home, suffering from stab wounds to her head, chest, back and hands and a broken arm. They said Penson confessed to the attack while he was being taken to jail.
Penson must serve 80 percent of his sentenced before being eligible for parole.
