SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina troopers were investigating two fatal crashes in the Upstate on Wednesday afternoon.

The first crash happened about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of state Highway 56 and state Highway 560 in Laurens County. The second happened about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fort Prince Boulevard and Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County.

Troopers said a motorcycle and van were involved in the Spartanburg County crash. They said the driver of the motorcycle, identified by Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger as 57-year-old Thomas Allen, of Greer, was killed in the crash. Allen was wearing a helmet, troopers said.

In Laurens County, troopers said a semi truck and another vehicle collided, killing the passenger of the second vehicle - identified by Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek as 53-year-old Barbara Albrecht, of Greenwood.

The circumstances surrounding each of the wrecks were under investigation, troopers said.
