Newberry County said they have made an arrest after a woman's body was found in the Broad River on Friday.
Sheriff Lee Foster said the body was found off Highway 213 at the Broad River Bridge near the Fairfield County line. Deputies said the woman's body had been beaten, stabbed and cut and her fingerprints were used to identify her.
"Boaters found the body, and it's going to take some time to make an identification," Foster said on Friday. "Because the body was found in the water, we don't know how long it's been there. So, we're going to see what the autopsy shows."
Deputies with the sheriff's office, DNR, SLED and the Newberry County Coroner's Office were called in to investigate. Following an autopsy, Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton identified the woman as Cindy Koon, 42, of Prosperity. According to Newton, Koon died after she was cut on the jugular vein.
Almost simultaneously with the identification of the body, Koon's husband reported her missing to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, deputies said.
Deputies said after searching Koon's home, finding forensic evidence and interviewing her husband, they arrested Allen Koon, 42, also of Prosperity, and charged him with murder. He is being held at the Newberry County Detention Center and will have a bond set by a Circuit Court Judge at a later date.
Deputies said the couple had a long, documented history of domestic problems dating back to 2007. They said there were no convictions for domestic violence against either two.
Investigators said that every indication at this point is that Koon acted alone in the death and moving of his wife's body.
