GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Five people have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a man driving to church earlier this month.

Greenville County deputies said that on Nov. 14 they were called to the intersection of Dillon Drive and Hammett Street after someone reported a fight. They said arriving deputies found a 73-year-old man laying in the street, bleeding from his head.

Investigators said the man reported that someone kicked his truck while he was driving to church, and when he stopped to see what happened, he was attacked by several people.

The group got away with the man's cash and his truck, deputies said.

On Monday, deputies said they arrested 22-year-old Juvonne Thorton, 21-year-old Rodrikus Brooks, 22-year-old Zandra Sherman, 23-year-old Kiya Scott, all of Greenville, and 34-year-old Sterling Mcgowan, of Mauldin, in connection with the attack.

All five of the suspects were charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault and battery by mob, attempted murder and carjacking. Thorton was also charged with conspiracy. Brooks, who deputies said was found in possession of the victim's truck, was also charged with failure to stop for a blue light and possession of a stolen vehicle. All of the suspects were being held in jail without bond.
