MAULDIN, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Mauldin police said a gang-related fight led the discovery of a knife at Mauldin High School on Monday morning.
According to an incident report, the two teens bumped into each other in the hallway, and the pair exchanged words. They said that one of the teens took a swing at the other and a fight ensued.
Police said that after teachers broke up the fight, the two teens were interviewed by the school resource officer. They said that during the interview, one of the students said he was carrying a pocket knife. They described the knife as a tactical SWAT knife with a 4-inch blade.
Both of the boys were charged with third-degree assault and battery and disturbing school, police said. They said the teen with the knife was also charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.
One of the students suffered a cut to his hand, police said.
