GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Greenville County deputies said they are investigating a rash of break-ins at businesses on Woodruff and Haywood roads, which they believe are connected.
Deputies said that last week, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves shattered glass doors and swiped goods at at least four stores - Julie's Jewels and Gifts, Classic Liquor, Paradise Jewelers and Lucy's Love Shop.
Investigators said the burglar employed the same method each time. They said he used something to shatter the glass door of each business and then left for about 15 minutes. They said the man then came back, grabbed cash and other items and dashed out of the store - all in less than a minute.
Julie Brashier, the owner of Julie's Jewels and Gifts, said she has been in business for about 19 years, and this is the first time her store has been burglarized.
"I don't know if he left to see if the alarm went off, to see what would happen," Brashier said as she watched surveillance video of the break-in. "He comes straight up to the door, puts his hand in where the deadbolt is [and] unlocks it."
Brashier said the man grabbed the cash drawer, a display of earrings and a computer, totaling about $12,000.
"We were pretty amazed at how good this guy was," Brashier said.
Brashier said she has heard that a number of other business have been burglarized, but investigators have not said they are connected to the same thief.
Anyone with information about the break-ins was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME (864-232-7463).
