ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -
Asheville police said a driver smoking synthetic marijuana was stopped after officers noticed a gas nozzle and hose still in his gas tank.
Police said 32-year-old William Buchanan, of Nebo, had driven to Asheville to purchase a large amount of synthetic marijuana from a store. They said after his purchase, Buchanan smoked some of the substance and then stopped for gas at a station on Tunnel Road. They said that Buchanan then drove away from the gas station without removing the nozzle from his gas tank, ripping the nozzle and hose from the pump.
Police said that officers stopped Buchanan on U.S. Highway 70 when they noticed the hose hanging from his vehicle. They said that Buchanan was smoking from a pipe with a gas can in his passenger's seat when he was stopped.
Buchanan was charged with driving while intoxicated and damage to property.
