ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A fire that destroyed one of two units at an Anderson duplex Friday morning was ruled arson, according to Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson.

Firefighters at the scene said a passerby saw smoke and flames coming from the Shirley Circle duplex about 1:20 a.m. and called 911.

Firefighters said no one was home in either side of the duplex, and the side where the fire sparked was completely destroyed.

The other side was damaged by smoke and water, firefighters said.

A section of Highway 187 was closed while firefighters finished at the scene.

No one was injured fighting the fire.

Gibson said investigators are following up on leads as to who started the blaze.
