ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Two men were arrested and charged in connection with an assault of a female Asheville police officer.

Police said on Nov. 24, the officer saw a fight break out in front of Magnolia's Bar on Walnut street and when she tried to intervene, one of the men assaulted her then ran away.

As she chased after that man, another man attacked her, grabbing her by the throat, police said.

Other officers were able to arrest that man, Jonathan Aliferis, that night and charge him with assault by strangulation, assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

The other man, Lloyd Phillips, ran away until he turned himself in on Thursday, police said. Phillips was charged with affray, assault on an officer and resisting arrest. Police said he was charged on an outstanding warrant of not paying child support.
