SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's and coroner's offices are investigating a homicide.
Deputies responded to a home at 404 Judd St. just after midnight Saturday.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Fred Black, 53, of Spartanburg, was found dead inside the home, in which the victim also operated a convenience store and eatery.
Clevenger said an autopsy showed Black died from internal bleeding resulting from a gunshot wound.
The Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation into Black's death. Neighbors told FOX Carolina Black was a great man and his death is disturbing.
"He would help people that was in need that didn't have the money at the time," said neighbor Debra Crowe. "He trusted everybody, and he did everybody the same. He wasn't one sided at all."
Deputies in that unit said they suspect robbery may have been the motive in the killing.
Deputies urge anyone with any information to please call Crime stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Tipsters with information leading to an arrest can receive a reward up to $2,000.
