
Greenwood County deputies said they arrested a man who admitted stealing copper from his employer every day for six months.
According to an incident report, someone told deputies that 48-year-old Walter Comeau was taking copper from Greenwood Fabricating and Plating, where he worked. Investigators informed an employee at the business, who said he would look in to the matter, according to the report.
Deputies said they eventually confronted Comeau as he was leaving work on Monday, and he admitted to having a bar of copper in his backpack. They said that Comeau admitted that he would sell the stolen copper to two recycling businesses.
According to the incident report, Comeau stole 5,778 pounds of copper, worth $23,625.75.
Comeau was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent and transporting stolen non-ferrous metals.
