Grocery chain Fresh and Easy could soon be closing up shop after its British parent company, Tesco, announced a strategic review of the stores.
Rumors of a possible shutdown have many who shop at the southern Nevada locations upset.
"It's disappointing, it's my local grocery store… my wife is out of town so instead of cooking I just buy a pre-made lunch here," said Alan Owens, who shops at the location at Horizon Ridge and Stephanie in Henderson.
"It's just my husband and I, so it works out nicely for two people because they do smaller portions of stuff," said Tonya Friedman, who also shops at the location at Horizon Ridge and Stephanie in Henderson.
Despite its popularity with some locals, as a whole, the store hasn't been doing well.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the company has never turned a profit, and in the first half of 2012, it lost about $115 million.
Tesco said during the strategic review, all options are under consideration.
"We come here almost daily, so yeah I'm very saddened and hope that it will change but doubtful," shopper Cindy Wilfore told FOX5.
There are about 20 Fresh and Easy locations in southern Nevada, with estimated hundreds of employees.
Speaking anonymously to FOX5, some said they suspected this could be happening as they noticed their inventories had been shrinking.
But stores won't be closing just yet.
The company posted this statement on its website:
"You may have read that our parent company, Tesco, has announced a 'strategic review' of Fresh & Easy. We wanted to reassure you, as our friends and greatest supporters, that we are open for business as usual and we look forward to bringing the same delicious, wholesome, and affordable food and the same great service that you have come to expect from us every day."
"It's in and out, they're so friendly, service is always great so it will be missed," Wilfore told FOX5.
