Greenville man ordered to pay $3.9M to fraud victims

COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville man who pleaded guilty to wire fraud was ordered to pay $3.9 million in restitution to his victims.

In addition to the restitution, United States Attorney Bill Nettles said James Pearce Jr., 63, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

Nettles said Pearce pleaded guilty in June after a three-day trial when multiple witnesses testified that Pearce convinced them to loan him money based on his false statements that he had a successful currency trading business.

Rather than having a successful program, Nettles said Pearce lost every penny that he invested during a seven-year period. At his guilty plea hearing and sentencing Monday, Pearce admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for what he had done, Nettles said.
