COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
An Anderson man told lottery officials his wife let him buy a lottery ticket for picking up a roast chicken for dinner recently, leading to a $200,000 lottery win.
The man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that he went to the Bi-Lo store on MLK Jr. Boulevard to buy dinner and picked up the $10 Fire and Ice scratch-off ticket, quickly learning he won the money.
"When we didn't win the big Powerball jackpot a few weeks ago, I prayed please, one day let us win $200,000 so we can buy a house," the man said.
He told the lottery that he and his wife had been looking at houses but were disappointed when they realized they needed to save more money for a down payment.
"We can't believe we were so lucky," he said.
One top prize remains in the Fire and Ice game and the odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 500,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, Bi-Lo store received a commission of $2,000.
