The Asheville Fire Department is warning residents of a possible home inspection scam reported in the area.
Officials said a resident reported getting a call from someone claiming to be an Asheville firefighter saying there had been several fires in their area and the caller was willing to come in and inspect the resident's home.
The resident told fire officials they thought it was suspicious, so they reported it.
The Asheville Fire Department does not perform inspection of single dwellings and anyone who gets a similar call should report it. The department contacts building owners and property managers about inspections for multi-dwelling buildings, officials said.
