Deputies said they have seen a spike in business burglaries since August and have now charged several in connection to 20 of them.
Greenville County deputies said the rise in crimes began Aug. 15 and after several investigations, they arrested 26-year-old Wayne Bryant on Nov. 28 in connection with four of them.
Deputies said as their investigation continued, they were able to charge Bryant with a total of 30 crimes in a total of 18 burglaries, as of Tuesday. They said he is being held at the county jail on $131,260 bond.
Bryant did not act alone, deputies said, but was helped in some of the thefts by 30-year-old Jessica Richey, 23-year-old Woodrow Byars, 24-year-old Scott Brady Byars Jr., of Greer, and 17-year-old William White.
Deputies said White and Woodrow Byars were in custody and jail records show Richey was arrested on Friday, but Scott Byars Jr. is still wanted. They also said Woodrow Byars was charged in two other burglaries he is accused of committing on his own.
Greenville County deputies said Woodrow Byars was being held in Spartanburg County on unrelated charges. Those charges followed a two-county chase that ended in crash last week. Read more about that story here.
According to deputies, some of the businesses broken into included Boost Mobile on Wade Hampton Boulevard, Hot Rod Graphics, Pure Wireless, Floral Designs, Salon Suppliers, Appalachian Outfitters, Hunan K, Dillard Farms, Forbidden Fruit, A & P Restaurant, Radha Indian Grocers, Julie's Jewels and Gifts, Natalias Fashion and Paradise Jewelers.
Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Jessica Richey and Scott Byars Jr. is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
