The clearing skies today are a welcome sight after some cloudy and gloomy days so far this week. Tonight, with the clear skies and light winds the temps will fall fast! We'll plummet to around freezing in the Upstate and mid 20s for the mountains. If you love a good show, you might want to bundle up and head outside between 10pm and 3am tonight! The Geminid meteor shower will be a grand sight this year, because skies will be clear and the moon will be new (meaning we won't have moon glare to deal with!). Expect up to 100 meteors per hour! If you get any good video of the meteor shower, email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. This all happens as the earth passes through the debris from an old asteroid. Very cool stuff! Friday is looking gorgeous, with sunny skies and comfortably cool temps. Cloud come back Saturday, then showers by late Saturday night and Sunday. Rain could get heavy with this next system, especially by late Sunday and once again on Monday. There isn't a ton of cold air behind the rain, but we will get back to seasonal norms for the week leading up to Christmas.
I'm working on a "White Christmas" story...talking about our chances for a White Christmas, how often we've seen once (anyone remember 2010?!), etc. I'll get that posted late week or early next week.
