George Leventis (Spartanburg Co. Detention Center)
SPARTANBURG, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -
Charges against a Spartanburg man were upgraded Friday after officials said his 104-year-old mother died after being found living in filth.
On Dec. 4, police said they found Demetra Leventis at her home lying in her own feces and had fist-sized bed sores filled
with maggots. They said a home health nurse found the woman and asked the woman's son, 63-year-old George Leventis, for help cleaning up his mother. The nurse said Leventis told her to leave.
Leventis was with abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult.
Police said that Demetra Leventis died Thursday evening. They said the charges against her son were upgraded to abuse or neglect resulting in death.
George Leventis was being held in the Spartanburg County jail.
