A Travelers Rest man pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to distributing prescription painkillers illegally.
Bill Nettles, U.S. attorney for South Carolina, said Lee Roy Roberts, 25, pleaded guilty to distributing oxycodone. The charges came out of a Greenville County Sheriff's Office investigation when they received a Crime Stoppers tip about a lot of drug traffic out of Roberts' trailer.
Deputies said they searched his trailer on May 25, 2010 and found weapons, cash, hydrocodone, marijuana, clonazepam, oxycodone and alprazolam. They said Roberts and Ashley Marie Evans sold as many as 2,000 prescription painkillers a month to Upstate addicts.
Their seven-days-a-week business earned them an estimated $226,000, Nettles said.
Roberts faces up to $250,000 in fines and/or 20 years in prison once he is sentenced, according to Nettles. Evans pleaded guilty in November.
