A strong cold front is barreling in our direction this afternoon. Once the rain moves out just after dark, winds will pick up drastically as our wind direction changes to northwest behind the front.
Upstate/NE Georgia - Tonight: Sustained winds of 15-30mph with gusts of 30-40mph overnight as temperatures fall into the middle 30s by morning. No snow is expected.
Western NC - Tonight: Sustained winds of 30-40mph with gusts in the 40-60mph range will happen overnight. Snow will begin in the high elevations tonight and increase in coverage closer to sunrise Friday.
Upstate/NE Georgia - Friday: Northwest winds will become stronger. Sustained winds will likely be between 20-30mph with gusts in the 30-50mph range possible.
Western NC - Friday: Northwest winds will also strengthen across Western NC. Sustained winds are expected between 25 and 40mph with gusts in the 40-75mph range possible. Also, High elevation snow will accumulate and this combined with high winds will make it tough to get around on some back roads and side roads in the mountains.
These high winds will make it impossible for temperatures to warm up much on Friday. Upstate highs will only make it into the 40s while Western NC temperatures remain in the 30s.
