GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Charges against the suspect in an attack that left a Hodges man critically injured over the weekend were upgraded Wednesday after the victim died.

According to an incident report, 33-year-old Russell Aiken, of Hodges, got into an argument with his friend, 29-year-old Jason Bush, after a night of drinking on Saturday. The argument escalated while the pair and their girlfriends were sitting in a car in the parking lot of a Greenwood bar, according to the report. The report said that Aiken then began punching Bush in the head, knocking Bush unconscious.

Bush was eventually taken to Self Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to an arrest warrant. He succumbed to his injuries Monday, and his cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma and strangulation, according to an arrest warrant.

Aiken was originally charged with assault and battery after the attack, but the charge was upgraded to murder Wednesday. He was being held in the county jail without bond.
