One man dies after train collides with Subaru in Redding

A 21-year-old man and three other people in a Subaru were injured after it collided with a MetroNorth train in Redding on Sunday afternoon.

A Subaru traveled southbound over the tracks in the area of Long Ridge Road when it was struck by the train before 1:30 p.m.

A spokesman for MetroNorth told Eyewitness News the train was not carrying passengers at the time of the collision.

All four occupants in the Subaru were transported to Danbury Hospitals. None of the train's crew were seriously injured.

Wayne Balacky later died from injuries he suffered in the crash.

James Redmond, 21, and Fakeem Morning, 19, both of Danbury suffered leg injuries and were transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. Jausheema Perkins, 19, of Danbury suffered head injuries and remains at Danbury Hospital.

A MetroNorth spokesperson said the railroad crossing had flashing lights to indicate an oncoming train, and said they were on and working at the time of the crash.

Following the crash, train service on the Danbury branch was suspended and bus service was used.

The crash remains under investigation by MTA Police.
