PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A car crashed into the entrance of a Piedmont bank Thursday afternoon, which firefighters said is about the third time a similar accident has happened at the building.
Piedmont firefighters responded to the BB&T Bank located at 900 Anderson St. about noon after a female driver in her 80's drove into the bank's glass entryway.
Firefighters said they believe the driver thought she was in reverse but was actually in drive. They said paramedics checked her out, but she was not injured.
However, this was not the first time someone has driven into this bank, firefighters said. They said yellow concrete posts were placed between the parking spaces and the bank after a similar crash the same time last year, but the posts were not close enough to keep cars from getting through them.
The bank is temporarily closed to keep customers and employees safe from the broken glass and potential hazards, firefighters said. They said they don't believe there is significant structural damage.
