ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Some concerned parents went to the Anderson County Council meeting Thursday night seeking more school resource officers.

Holly Carithers and other parents throughout Anderson County came to the meeting to seek more school resources officers after the tragedy in Connecticut. Right now, Anderson County has 11 trained deputies working as resource officers at the district's 12 middle and high schools. But there is no law enforcement presence at the elementary schools.

The parents said they are willing to do whatever get to it done.

"Every parent is concerned and we all want the same thing and we want our children to be safe," said Carithers.

County Council explained that money for additional resource officers wouldn't come from their budget. They said it would have to come from each of the individual school district budgets.

The next step is for the parents to meet with individual school districts in Anderson County to hopefully get officers in the elementary schools too. They found out it cost around $50,000 per officer to add to the schools.
