Port of Portland Police said they arrested six people, including two children, responsible for a string of bag thefts at the Portland International Airport.
Investigators said Brian Mottaz, 44, Nancy Mottaz, 44, Joshua Ryan, 23, and Amanda Grogan, 23, were caught using two young boys to help them steal luggage from the baggage claim area.
According to a police report, the victim reported what looked like a family stealing their bag from Baggage Carousel #3 just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The victim directed police to the airport MAX stop where they caught the group trying to get away on the commuter train.
Investigators said all four adults and two kids were arrested after the victim identified them as being responsible for the crime. Detectives said the group was behind several other bag thefts at the airport.
"I think it's really bad that they're using the children to help with their crimes," said traveler Linda Lapinoja.
All four adults were charged with theft and conspiracy. The Mottaz's were facing two additional charges of endangering the welfare of a minor.
The adults were also banned from the airport for 90 days.
