SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are investigating a shooting at a local apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Dispatchers said someone was shot at the Oakview Apartments on Howard Street at Aden Street about 1:30 a.m.

Spartanburg police said the victim was visiting his child at the apartment when someone there let two men in through the back door. Officers said one of them tried to rob the victim at gunpoint, believing he had cash, prompting the victim to try and run away.

The shooter fired three shots as the victim ran out the door, hitting him once in the back, police said. Police said the victim continued to run until officers found him lying along Vernon Street, where he was then taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers said they were actively investigating the shooting and talking with witnesses. The victim told police he did not get a look at the shooter but did have money on him from his job.
