Following Alabama's 42-14 route of Notre Dame, the final college football rankings were released, with Clemson and South Carolina rising in the major polls.

The Gamecocks (11-2) jumped to No. 7 in the Associated Press poll and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll while the Tigers (11-2) were ranked ninth by USA Today and 11th by the AP.

Going into the Outback Bowl against Michigan, South Carolina was ranked 10th in the AP and 11th by USA Today. The Gamecocks beat the Wolverines 33-28 in a close New Year's Day game.

This was the first time Clemson cracked the Top 10 at the end of the season since 1990.

The Tigers were ranked 13th by USA Today and 14th by AP as they faced LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, who was ranked seventh by USA Today and 9th by AP entering prior to their 25-24 loss to Clemson on Dec. 31. It was the highest ranked team Clemson has defeated in a bowl game since the 2003 season when they defeated sixth-ranked Tennessee 27-14.

South Carolina will open its 2013 season at home against North Carolina while Clemson will host Georgia.
