A $1,400 travel check voucher from "US Airlines" that claims to be good for two, round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. is bogus, police said.
"The problem is 'US Airlines' does not exist," Prescott Valley police said in statement.
A website associated with the vouchers, TravelAndDeals.com, currently has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau because of 73 complaints and failure to respond to 35 of those complaints, police said.
"Although no Arizona residents have filed complaints with our office, we have confirmed local residents received these fake checks by mail," BBB Vice President of Communications Felicia Thompson said. "Arizona residents claim the vouchers were postmarked from Phoenix and Scottsdale."
In addition to receiving check vouchers from US Airlines, some consumer complaints allege receiving vouchers from "American Airways," which also does not exist, police said.
Local residents who receive this or a similar airline check voucher from a nonexistent airline are strongly encouraged to shred the document, officers recommended.
