COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina GOP executive director Matt Moore is leaving the state party's office to work as the state director for newly-minted Sen. Tim Scott.

Scott selected Moore to round out his team after he was picked to finish out Sen. Jim DeMint's term after the former junior senator left to head up the Heritage Foundation.

"I appreciate the kind words from so many friends today. Looking forward to serving [Scott], said Moore in a tweeted statement.

Moore has served as the executive director for the state Republican Party for the past several years.

He has also served as the deputy political director at the Republican Governors Association, deputy director at the Georgia Republican Party, and executive director of the South Carolina Club for Growth.

SCGOP political director Alex Stroman has been tapped to replace Moore.
