TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Wireless technology that enables police officers to upload suspect information in the field helped Tempe authorities capture a man they characterized as a dangerous criminal.

Lewis Jake, 35, was arrested Sunday in connection with a purse snatching incident.

An elderly woman was attacked in the parking lot of grocery store at 725 W. Baseline Rd.

The victim fell to the ground, suffering serious injuries. Police said Jake fled the area in a vehicle. Witnesses gave officers the description of the vehicle, including the license plate.

The information given to responding patrol units was documented in the new Records Management System.  Jake was not immediately located and patrol officers turned the case over to detectives in the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

The next day, an alert patrol officer was looking for criminal activity in a high crime area of 1700 S. Priest Dr. in Tempe.

While conducting his investigation, the new system alerted the officer that a vehicle in the parking lot was the suspect vehicle from the robbery the day before.

Surveillance was set up. A short time later, Jake was taken into custody. A subsequent search warrant was done on the vehicle and room where Jake was staying. During the search, detectives located and recovered property belonging to the victim, according to police.

Jake was booked into the Tempe City Jail on one count of robbery, one count of aggravated assault and one count of tampering with evidence.
