GREENWOOD, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -
A Greenwood woman who hid her grandfather's body in order to continue receiving his Social Security checks was sentenced to 10 months in prison Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Alicia Kelly, 40, pleaded guilty to Social Security fraud, in Federal Court in Anderson.
Investigators said that Kelly concealed the death of her grandfather for more than a year while continuing to receive and use his Social Security benefits.
Kelly previously pleaded guilty to state charges of desecration of human remains, child abuse and swindling, after investigators said she lied about her daughter having cancer so she could scam money from donors.
Authorities said they discovered the cancer scheme after finding the mummified body of Kelly's grandfather in a camper in February 2011.
Kelly was sentenced to three years in prison in March 2012 after pleading guilty to the state charges.
