Police: Mauldin High student burned classmate's hair

MAULDIN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Mauldin High School student used a lighter to burn his classmate's hair last week, according to Mauldin police.

According to an incident report, the boy pulled out a lighter a lit a girl's hair on fire after saying he was going to do it. The girl then ran to the bathroom and doused her hair in water to put out the fire.

When interviewed by an officer, the boy denied having anything to do with the incident, according to the police report.

The boy was charged with third-degree assault and battery and disturbing school, according to the report.

School district officials said the boy was suspended for 10 days.
