ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Anderson County deputies are investigating the theft of animals after someone stole 26 head of cattle from a local livestock exchange.
Deputies said someone cut the chain that locked the gates at Upstate Livestock Exchange on Cherokee Road in Williamston sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning.
The exchange owners arrived about 8 a.m. Monday to find the cattle missing, deputies said.
There was no surveillance or neighbors close enough that saw the theft, deputies said. They did not say what type of cattle were stolen.
According to their website, Upstate Livestock Exchange is the state's largest leading stockyard specializing in the sale of goats, swine, cattle, horses and more.
Anyone with information about the crime or cattle's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
