BEREA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Downed trees and power lines kept the Berea Fire Department busy Thursday. Around 7 p.m. Saluda Dam Road was blocked off to traffic because of a downed power line in the middle of the road.
The crew had already responded to 16 phone calls from 2-7 p.m. Thursday.
The fire department said there wasn't much damage to homes. They said most of the calls have been in reference to downed trees, or power lines that have been pulled down by those trees.
Crews warn the public that it's dangerous to travel in the area Thursday night because it's so dark it's hard to see the downed lines until it's too late.
The department said in the event of snow, they are prepared.
"We have chains to put on our trucks, we will be monitoring the weather on a regular basis," said Lt. JJ Arrowood. "Just be patient with the fire department and we'll get there as quickly and safely as we can."
