SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg County deputies said a man who robbed a Boiling Springs bank Friday afternoon was arrested hours later in Charlotte.
The robbery happened about 2:45 p.m. at First Piedmont Federal Bank at 2101 Boiling Springs Hwy.
Deputies said a man walked in, handed a note that demanded money to a teller, and fled the scene in a beige four-door Toyota Corolla with North Carolina license plates.
Police in Charlotte spotted the beige vehicle and pulled it over and arrested the driver, 35-year-old Phillip Pontnak, of Charlotte, on a charge of driving under suspension, deputies said. They said the same coat the robber was seen wearing was in the back seat of Pontnak's car. They said it appeared Pontnak had shaved his mustache and goatee as he was driving to Charlotte.
Pontnak will be held in Charlotte until his extradition to Spartanburg County.
