GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A 6-year-old girl in Greenwood is thankful she's not more seriously hurt after a pit bull attacked her this week.
Kaylynne Byrd's father, Justin Byrd, said it all began with a bike ride with his little girl and stepson Monday afternoon when they ran into a man walking a pit bull. Justin Byrd said he asked the owner if it was OK to pet the dog and seconds later, he said, it attacked Kaylynne. He said it bit her once on the left ear and on the right foot.
Justin Byrd said the man with the dog did nothing to stop the dog.
"To my knowledge he never tried to pull the dog away from her and I never hear him holler at the dog or anything," he said.
He also said the dog took off part of his daughter's ear and left her with eight stitches in her right foot. It's an incident that he feels will leave emotional scars for life, but he's thankful she's alive.
