Joshua Chapman (Spartanburg Co. Sheriff's Office)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said a 19-year-old man was shot in the face early Saturday morning outside of a Spartanburg club.
Spartanburg County deputies responded to Club Maze on Howard Street about 3 a.m. where they found the victim was shot close to his eye and the shooter fled the scene in a white Ford Escort.
A "Be on the Lookout" alert was sent out for the shooter's car and deputies said with the help of police, they were able to locate it and pull it over a short time later. When the car was stopped, deputies said the driver said his passenger did it.
Deputies arrested 19-year-old Joshua Chapman, of Greenville, and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Investigators said they recovered a handgun that was used by Chapman to shoot the victim.
The victim is being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound at a local hospital.
Deputies said Chapman and the victim did not know each other before the shooting and they have not yet determined a motive because of witnesses' lack of cooperation during their interviews.
Chapman is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
