Some Greenville County voters will head to the polls on Tuesday but need to double check where to vote because some polling places have changed.
Greenville County Elections Director Conway Belangia said they have relocated several polling places out of caution for school safety in the wake of the Newtown, CT, school shooting in December. He said they don't want to cause worries or concern for parents, students or administrators.
The relocated polling sites are only for Tuesday's Republican Primary for the House District 17 seat and then for the March 12 special election. District 17 covers the areas of Travelers Rest, Slater-Marietta, Cleveland and Tigerville.
The special election will fill the empty state house seat after that was vacated by Tom Corbin, who resigned to become a state senator representing District 5. According to the TR Tribune, the candidates running in the primary are Mike Burns, Roy Harmon, Tom Kolarik, Chris Sullivan and Randall Young.
This will also be the first Upstate election with the new voter identification law in effect.
Below are a list of the relocated precincts and new polling place locations:
Altamont Forest at Tubbs Mountain: Moved from Duncan Chapel Fire Station to Enoree Baptist Church at 881 Tigerville Rd. in Travelers Rest.
Ebenezer: Moved from Heritage Elementary to North Greenville Fire Station No. 2 at 596 Hodgens Rd. in Travelers Rest.
