GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Gaffney woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a 10-year-old girl Monday afternoon.

The crash happened about 5:40 p.m. near the intersection of Hopewell and Dulin roads.

Troopers said the girl was riding a scooter in the southbound lane of Hopewell Road when a car hit her and left the scene.

The child was flown to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment, troopers said. Family members said she was put into a medically induced coma upon arrival. Fox Carolina spoke with the girl's parents Wednesday morning and they told us her condition has since worsened.

The girl's teenage sister said she was with the girl and their 5-year-old brother in front of their home when a truck drove by, prompting them to get out of the road and onto the grass. She said that was when the car drove towards them, hitting the girl and barely missing the two siblings.

On Tuesday evening, troopers said they arrested 40-year-old Nikki Waters in connection with the crash. She was charged with hit-and-run with great bodily injury, driving under suspension and failure to render aid. She was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center on $75,000 bond.
