Authorities say this gun was found loaded in a passenger's carry-on bag at GSP. (Jan. 21, 2013/TSA)
GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A loaded gun was found in the carry-on bag of a passenger at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport on Monday, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
Jonathan Allen, spokesman for the agency, said the .32-caliber pistol was confiscated by airport police.
"We continue to remind passengers of the importance of looking through carry-on bags to ensure there are no prohibited items inside," Allen said.
Allen said while firearms are prohibited in carry-on luggage, they may be transported in checked baggage. He said passengers who bring firearms to a security checkpoint will face a civil penalty, which includes a fine of up to $7,500 and a referral for criminal charges.
This is the second weapon confiscated at GSP this year, Allen said. He said 12 weapons were found at GSP in 2012.
