Residents in Powdersville will have a new place to shop and go to work when the under-construction Wal-Mart opens later this year.

The new Wal-Mart store is hiring about 275 associates and is hosting a hiring event at the Easley Wal-Mart on Thursday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., interested candidates can stop by the Easley location at 115 Rolling Hills Road to apply.

"We are hiring both full- and part-time associates," said store manager Ginny Marhanka. "Wal-Mart provides good jobs with opportunities for career growth, and we look forward to talking with candidates who are interested in joining our store's team."

Most associates will begin working in February in preparation for the store's grand opening.

Candidates who can't make Thursday's event can apply online at or stop by the new store's hiring center, which is located less than a half-mile from the new store at 115 Siloam Road, across the street from Siloam Baptist Church and next to Concrete Elementary School. The hiring center is open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
